2015 Congress - Call for Heroes and Museum of ISB submissions

From the Chair of the ISB 2015 Congress:

As this is the 25th Congress of ISB we wish to mark the occasion with some special activities two of which are displays of “Heros of Biomechanics” and “Museum of Biomechanics”.

For “Heros of Biomechanics” we would like to ask you to nominate anybody who you feel has made a significant contribution to the field of Biomechanics whether academic, clinical or commercial. A proposal form is attached and an example of the type of thing required is also attached.

For the “Museum of Biomechanics” we would like to ask you to contribute any device or advancement that you feel helped to develop our field so that we can build a Virtual Museum of these before they are lost to history. Again a proposal form and an example of the type of thing required is also attached.

21st Congress of the European Society of Biomechanics

The 21st Congress of the European Society of Biomechanics will be held from 5th - 8th July 2015 at the Clarion Congress Hotel Prague, Czech Republic. So why not visit Prague and then come and visit us in Glasgow, Scotland at  ISB2015.

2015 Footwear Biomechanics Symposium

The next Footwear Biomechanics Symposium will be held in Liverpool (UK) from 8-10 July 2015. It will be hosted by Liverpool John Moores University, co-organised with the University of Liverpool. So why not visit Liverpool and then come and visit us in Glasgow, Scotland at  ISB2015.

In addition, the portals for abstract submission, registration, and student accommodation for the Footwear Biomechanics Symposium will open early in 2015 and the deadline for abstract submission is Feb 6 2015. There will be NO DEADLINE EXTENSION for abstract submission.

2015 Computer Simulation In Biomechanics Symposium

The XV International Symposium on Computer Simulation in Biomechanics will be held July 9th-11th 2015, the weekend leading up to ISB 2015, in Edinburgh, UK. So why not visit Edinburgh and then come and visit us in Glasgow, Scotland at  ISB2015.

ISB at the WCB 2014

WCB2014 Colour

This a reminder that the 7th World Congress of Biomechanics is being held in Boston, USA, from July 6-11. WCB is an international meeting held once every four years, rotating among Europe, Asia and the Americas. The 7th WCB will once again bring together bioengineers, biomechanists, life scientists and medical researchers from around the world for 5 days of in-depth discussions and presentations. The ISB has major role at the WCB and and there are number ISB based sessions, including the ISB Motor Control I and II, Footwear-Force, Footwear-Muscle, Footwear-Move, Footwear-Foot, and the ISB Presidential Symposiums. Make sure you are attending WCB2014 and also attend all the ISB Session.

ISB2013 - A Celebration of Life

Marco Vaz, Chairperson of ISB Congress 2013, has a message to share in the following PDF including the extension of the deadline for abstract submission. Read about it here: alt ISB_2013_-_Santa_Maria.pdf

The next ISB Congress is being held in 2013 in Natal, Brazil. Make sure you are there for our major meeting of all ISB members and others who work in the international Biomechanics community. Please stay tuned for all updates on events, satelite conferences, submissions, travel grants for students and EDC members, and keynote and invited speakers. See the ISB2013 web site for information.

Funding Opportunities for Researchers from Economically Developing Countries

For ISB members from Economically Developing Countries funding is possible from Grand Challenges Canada and the Schlumberger Foundation, which are dedicated to funding researchers from developing and emerging countries. Furthermore, proposal/application deadlines for these funding opportunities begin in early September 2012. Read more ...

Professor David Winter

DavidWinterIt is with great sadness that we inform the International Biomechanics community of the passing of Professor David Winter. David Winter had a pioneering role in defining the biomechanics field.  His methods and rationale for using biomechanics to understand movement are foundational to the modern science of biomechanics. The International Biomechanics community passes our sincere condolences to David's family. Details about David and his funeral can be found at this link.

Further, a full tribute message is in the March 2012 issue of ISB NOW.
