A PNEUMATIC ANKLE-FOOT-ORTHESIS AS A MEAN TO EXPERIMENTALLY VALIDATE
HYPOTHESES ABOUT THE ROLE OF THE TIBIALIS ANTERIOR IN THE WALK-TO-RUN
TRANSITION

Philippe Malcolm obtained in 2002 a master degree
in Physical Education with great distinction. His interests in biomechanics
arose during his specialization in gymnastics coaching from a project involving
a movement analysis of the giant swing on different gymnastic apparatus. In
2004 he got the opportunity to start working as assistant and pursuing Ph.D.
studies at the department of Movement and Sports Sciences of the Ghent University
under Prof. Dirk De Clercq.
Philippe
is currently in the third year of his Ph.D. studies on human gait transition.
At this stage he is focusing on the influence of the ankle musculature on gait
transition and has developed a powered ankle-foot-exoskeleton in to be used as
a means for experimentally manipulating the ankle power. His research interests
include gait transition, locomotion in general, biorobotics and sports
biomechanics.
