Cyma manufactures and sells the StepWatch (TM) Activity Monitor (SAM), a highly accurate step counting device that logs steps/minute for extended periods (up to a month or more).  It has been used extensively in studies ranging from the wear of total hip replacements to stroke rehab.  Accuracy in peer reviewed publications have consistently been greater than 96%. The monitor is programmed and data is downloaded through a docking station with custom software.  The software also performs analysis and display and printed reports.  The software is easy to use and available for both the Mac and the PC.

The SAM is a sealed, tamper-proof unit with a 10 year battery life.  About the size of a pager, it is worn at the ankle and gives no feedback to the subject.
