- The International Society of Biomechanics in Sports has had an active 2021 with our inaugural mid-year symposium held on February 4th - 5th. This new initiative was an opportunity to connect and share research and ideas. A total of nine sessions were live streamed at times to suit all global regions. Sessions ranged from sport specific (Sprint Biomechanics, The Biomechanics of Baseball & Softball Pitching), sport biomechanics topics (The Mechanics of the Female Athlete, Biomechanics Support for Elite Sport, Neural Networks), and general sessions (Biomechanics Teaching, Student Fireside Chat, Mother’s Café, Womxn in Sport Biomechanics). The symposium was sponsored by Vicon as ISBS society sponsor and Simi Motion. Recordings of the symposium events are available for ISBS members at isbs.org. Following positive feedback about the event, the 2nd ISBS Mid Year Symposium is planned for February 2-3 2022.
- The ISBS 2021 conference will be held virtually this year from 3rd-7th of September 2021. The conference will be hosted by the University of Canberra and the Australian Institute of Sport, and further details are available here http://www.isbs2021.org/. Despite its online version, award speakers including the Geoffrey Dyson and Hans Gros Emerging Researcher awards will continue. Scientific paper reviews for the main program are double blind and due mid April, follow updates on http://www.isbs2021.org/. Full articles of research presented at ISBS conferences are available for free at the ISBS Proceeding Archive: ISBS Proceedings Archive - International Society of Biomechanics in Sports.
- The ISBS 2022 conference in Liverpool, UK will include the “ISB World Athletics Award for Biomechanics” sponsored by World Athletics. This award is presented annually at the ISB/ISBS Conference. Please encourage sports biomechanics scholars to apply for this award and also consider nominating worthy scholars with an international reputation for the prestigious ISBS Geoffrey Dyson Award.
- Sports Biomechanics, the official scientific journal of ISBS, has seen substantial increases in submissions and citation metrics (IF). Review is double blind and there have been increases in associate editors and the number of issues published each year. Eight issues are planned for 2021 with increases to 10 or 12 issues in 2022.
