The Comparative Neuromuscular Biomechanics Working Group Update March 2021
There’s no doubt that 2020 was a challenging year, and we know that is putting it mildly, but 2020 also brought with it a fantastic opportunity to create diverse and accessible virtual events. In August 2020, the CNB ran a virtual workshop ‘Integrative Muscle Modelling for Neuromechanics’. It brought together scientists from biological, clinical and engineering backgrounds with shared interests in developing and using muscle models. The outcomes of the workshop will be used to develop symposium themes and tutorial activities for future meetings. In particular we had a high level of interest among participants in (1) developing standardized guidelines for reporting experimental data on muscle physiology, morphology and mechanical function across studies and subdisciplines; (2) creating curated datasets to help test and validate muscle models; and (3) running collaborative workshops on muscle modelling techniques.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic complications, the CNB board members have taken the difficult decision to not run a 2021 CNB meeting. Instead, we will begin our planning for a virtual event in 2022 and an in-person CNB meeting at the following ISB Congress in 2023. In addition, we are working with the ISB to develop future student/ECR support schemes (so stay tuned). For all updates from the CNB, please visit our Symposia page on our website: https://sites.psu.edu/cnbgroup/meetings/.
The CNB will be running board member elections later this year. Further details regarding Board elections will be available soon at the CNB website: https://sites.psu.edu/cnbgroup/ and will be circulated to members. Join the CNB email list and follow us on Twitter at @CNBiomechanics to receive announcements about this and other upcoming activities.
We hope you are all staying well.
