ISB2021 tutorials

A short update from your education officers here! We are delighted to advise that we will be extending the ISB2021 pre-conference tutorial offerings from 4 to 6 tutorials this year, thanks to the move to a virtual conference format (at least there is one upside!). We are looking to offer these across different times to accommodate a multitude of timezones, and will of course make these available for later viewing in the event you are unable to log in live.

We are currently still firming up a couple of tutorial areas, exact workshop titles, and the grand reveal on some exceptional presenter teams … but to whet your appetite, please know that you can look forward to tutorials in the general areas of:

  • Wearable sensors
  • Optimal control
  • Imaging
  • Machine learning and MORE

Please stay tuned to ISB announcements and the ISB2021 website for updated information.

Free machine learning online workshop for teaching

In other news, the Machine Learning/Biomechanics Group at the University of Western Australia, with able assistance from our counterparts at the University of Bath, have been putting together an entry-level workshop for use by teaching staff looking for some canned content to supplement their online teaching! The workshop, led by Dr Marion Mundt and Zac Born, runs in Jupyter Notebooks and has students collecting gait data from their smartphone accelerometers which is then used to classify typical and atypical gait patterns. The team is looking for a few pilot site partners to beta test the workflow in the wild and to collect some more phone accelerometry data to add to the model. That’s all for now but stay tuned for our upcoming ISB2021annoucements!
