EMG and Joint Angle Data During Cutting Movements

A study was conducted with the objective to understand muscle function and coordination during cutting-type movements. EMG and joint angle data were collected and the analysis was presented in:

Neptune RR, Wright IC, van den Bogert AJ (1999) Muscle coordination and function during cutting movements. Med Sci Sports Exerc 31:294-302.

The purpose of this web page is to provide the reader with access to the entire dataset which was not presented in detail in the above paper. The work was performed at the Human Performance Laboratory and The University of Calgary and contributed by Rick Neptune and This email address is being protected from spambots. Files:

  • EMG Data (ASCII, 2424K): A compressed tar file containing individual subject trials of EMG data.
  • Angle Data (ASCII, 743 K): A compressed tar file containing individual subject trials of Joint angle data.

Data Description and File Formats:

Due to hardware limitations, two sets of six electrode placements were collected independently for both movements, a v-cut (v) and side-shuffle (s). For details about the data collection and processing, please refer to the manuscript. For each of the 10 subjects, there are four files, two for each movement, with the two files within each movement corresponding to each electrode sets. The EMG files also contain the ground reaction force (GRF) data.
