Bogazici University, Institute of Biomedical Engineering seeks for candidates with an outstanding record of research in Biomechanics for a full academic faculty position.

The Institute has a strong Biomechanics Laboratory, which focuses on Motion Biomechanics, Tissue Biomechanics and Skeletal Muscle Mechanics in particular. The Lab has been developing novel viewpoints for muscular force transmission mechanisms, which have a great promise for improving our understanding of normal muscle function substantially and to shed light to unknown etiologies of several muscle pathologies and diseases (muscle spasticity in CP, muscular dystrophies, fibrosis, ageing) and mechanisms of effects of several treatments (e.g., Botulinum toxin type-A injections, remedial surgery, kinesio taping). Existing research methodologies include mathematical modeling of muscle mechanics (e.g., finite element analyses), assessment of muscular mechanics with animal experiments (muscle force measurements at multiple tendons simultaneously and characterization of tissue properties), magnetic resonance imaging analyses in vivo (for quantification of local deformations in human muscle and connective tissue), intra-operative human muscle mechanics experiments in patients undergoing remedial surgery and motion analysis. The Lab will extend its space and capacity substantially in the near future and is planning to further excel in Sports Biomechanics, in vivo Muscle Mechanics and Rehabilitation.

The candidates will be expected to bring in their own research interests and computational and/or experimental expertise to the Institute. The ideal candidate is one who will play a major role in strengthening the current research priorities within the Biomechanics Lab as well as within the Institute, particularly in the following directions: 

·        Gait analysis, sports biomechanics, orthopedic biomechanics

·        Medical imaging applications in biomechanics and skeletal muscle (e.g., MRI, Ultrasound, Elastography)

·        Medical devices and innovation for treatment and novel studies of muscle function and pathological conditions
