We are looking to recruit two candidates in the Biomedical Sciences program at both, the doctoral (PhD) and the Master (MSc) program. The selected candidates will work in professor Stéphane Sobczak’s Functional Anatomy Laboratory, at Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR), Trois-Rivières, QC, Canada. The suitable candidates will join a team of PhD and MSc students who are conducting researches in the field of functional anatomy, biomechanics and clinical anatomy. Researches will be carried out within the framework of the chair in functional anatomy newly created at UQTR and directed by professor Stéphane Sobczak (PT, MSc, PhD).


Concerning the current call, we are seeking to recruit a PhD candidate to conduct a part of a large research program focused on the development of a new functional diagnostic method to assess the intervertebral displacement by musculoskeletal ultrasound. The PhD candidate will have to develop fusion algorithm and work on the validation of this new method on cadaveric specimens and compare the lumbar kinematics determined by this new method to the lumbar kinematics determined by 3D models based on CTScan Imaging. The MSc candidate will have to work on the effect of intervertebral disc replacement by disc prosthesis and determine the kinematics alteration after lumbar IVD replacement.


Positions are based at the anatomy department, which has a dedicated state-of-the-art in functional anatomy research facility and will include collaborations with international research centers.


Ideal candidates are expected to follow the research program related to functional anatomy and biomechanics of the lumbar spine and to analyse data sets. The candidates will be involved in all aspects of the research projects, from experimental design to data analysis and manuscript writing.


Concerning the PhD candidate:


The following requirements are obligatory:


• MSc degree (Research) in functional anatomy or a related field such as bioengineering, Kinesiology, … (obtained less than 5 years before the date of recruitment);


• Experience with musculoskeletal imaging data analysis techniques and softwares;


• Good proficiency with MatLab programming (or other programming languages, such as Octave, C++, etc.);


• Ability to work independently and to collaborate with other team members;


• Excellent organizational and social skills;


• French proficiency (if the candidate doesn’t speak French at the beginning He/She will need to learn French because classes in the biomedical Sciences programme are taught in French);


The following requirements will be an advantage:


• Established publication record attesting the above-mentioned requirements;


• Experience in human anatomy and biomechanics;


• Good proficiency in English (especially scientific writing and oral communication).


• Experience with statistical analysis software;


• Research experience in biomechanics and cadaveric models


• Availability to start as soon as possible.


Concerning the MSc candidate:


The requirements are:


• BSc/MSc/Dr degree in the field of medical sciences such as Medecine, Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, … (obtained less than 3 years before the date of recruitment) or a related field.


• Short experience in anatomy lab and cadaveric model;


• Ability to work independently and to collaborate with other team members;


• Excellent organizational and social skills;


• French proficiency (if the candidate doesn’t speak French at the beginning He/She will need to learn French because classes in the biomedical Sciences programme are in French);


• Good proficiency in English (especially scientific writing and oral communication).


• Experience with statistical analysis software;


• Research experience in biomechanics and cadaveric models will be an advantage.


Salary will be commensurate with education and experience level and the appointment will be renewable on a yearly basis, contingent on satisfactory performance. Candidates will have to apply to governmental grants.
