PhD position in Biomechanics / Muscle Mechanics at the Department of Human Movement Science, Ruhr University Bochum (RUB)

Position description / Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student interested in human muscle function to join the Department of Human Movement Science at the Faculty of Sport Science at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB), Germany. The position will be funded for three years with a start date no later than April 2021. The PhD position is associated with a research project entitled

“Eccentric muscle function in humans”.

The project will investigate the biomechanics of eccentric contractions and how muscle function is modulated by eccentric and concentric training. Changes in muscle function and muscle morphology will be assessed by dynamometry, electromyography and 3D ultrasound imaging. The position also involves 2 hours of teaching undergraduate students per week.

For further information / informal enquiries please contact Dr. Hahn (daniel.hahn@rub.de) or Dr. Raiteri (brent.raiteri@rub.de).

Required Qualifications

Applicants should be highly motivated and have, or soon obtain, an excellent BSc (Hons) or MSc degree in biomechanics, biomedical engineering, kinesiology, sport & exercise sciences, biology/physiology, or a related field.

Desired Qualifications

Candidates with experience in human research including dynamometer testing, electromyography, and B-mode ultrasound are encouraged to apply. Strong technical skills in data processing and analysis using software packages like Spike2 or MATLAB are highly desirable.

RUB seeks to increase the number of women in areas in which they are underrepresented. Therefore, we particularly encourage qualified women to apply. RUB further aims to hire more people with disability, and also encourages them to apply for research positions.

Funding

The successful candidate will receive excellent funding according to TV-L, which will be approx. 17.500 € / year after tax, including health insurance.
