The Department of Kinesiology and Health ( is one of 34 departments in the School of Arts and Sciences ( and part of the school’s Division of Life Sciences ( This growing department is home to 11 tenure-track faculty, 10 full-time lecturers, and ~1300 undergraduate majors. Undergraduate students specialize in one of two academic areas: Exercise Science or Sport Management. Graduate students can earn degrees in Kinesiology and Applied Physiology (M.S., Ph.D.) as well as Global Sports Business (M.S.). 

The Department of Kinesiology and Health is committed to addressing major public health issues that arise, at least in part, from a lack of physical activity. It also boasts a nationally recognized program that aims to shape the future of the global sports industry. Faculty research focuses on lifestyle factors (physical activity and exercise, diet, sleep, and substance use) that affect physical and mental health through study of cardiovascular physiology, psychophysiology, sleep physiology, electrophysiology as well as exercise psychology, neurocognition, and public health. Current research funding comes from the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, American Diabetes Association, American Kidney Foundation, and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Many interdisciplinary research facilities are available to kinesiology research faculty. The state-of-the-art Center for Human Nutrition, Exercise, and Metabolism (NExT), the Microbiome and Nutrition Center, and the Lipid Research Center are located at the New Jersey Institute for Food, Nutrition, and Health (IFNH, The Motion Analysis Lab (Motion Analysis Lab - Rutgers - Department of Rehabilitation & Movement Sciences), located on the Rutgers University Newark Campus, provides opportunities to conduct cutting-edge research and clinical assessments of people orthopedic, neurological and arthritic conditions. The Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Research Center (CRC, offers additional support for clinical research studies. In addition, the W.M. Keck Center for Collaborative Neuroscience and the Brain Health Institute ( offer cutting-edge facilities for neuroscience research, from molecular and cellular science to advanced human brain imaging.

Position Announcement
The Department of Kinesiology and Health at Rutgers University - New Brunswick invites applicants for a tenure‐track position in areas of Motor Control and/or Biomechanics at the level of Assistant Professor to begin in the Fall 2022. We are seeking candidates with expertise in motor control, motor development, biomechanics, and/or neuromuscular physiology in individuals across the lifespan. We encourage women and folks who have been historically marginalized/underrepresented in the field, and those who are committed to teaching and mentoring a diverse student body to apply. Preferred qualifications include a focus on physical activity/exercise intervention to improve health outcomes and a research program that complements existing areas of expertise within the department. Responsibilities of the position include contributing to a collaborative environment promoting scholarship, teaching and service activities at the departmental, university, national and international levels. This is a full-time, tenure track, 9-month appointment with a competitive start-up package and salary range commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Establish and develop an active research program supported by federal and state funding agencies, foundations, and/or industry collaborators.

  • Teach relevant undergraduate and graduate level courses in Kinesiology.

  • Oversee graduate theses and dissertations, and undergraduate independent studies and honors projects.

  • Serve on departmental, school, and university committees or boards, as assigned, elected, or based on interests.

Required Qualifications

·         PhD in Kinesiology or a closely related field by the date of hire.

·         An initial record of research productivity as demonstrated by high-quality, peer-reviewed scientific publications.

·         Teaching experience in the movement sciences and related fields at the university level.

·         A commitment to teaching, research and service that fosters and contributes to advancing understanding and equitable outcomes for underrepresented groups.

·         Experience working in diverse teams and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.

Preferred Qualifications

·         Post-doctoral training and clear potential to secure extramural research funding

·         Knowledge of physical activity/exercise intervention in health and disease and application of this knowledge in the educational setting.

·         Knowledge of culturally responsive approaches for diverse learners and a respect of inclusive learning in academic settings.

·         A demonstrated ability to use technology in innovative ways to enhance teaching of courses related to biomechanics, motor control, and exercise science.
