Summary/Objective:
The Houston Astros are accepting applications for a Head of Biomechanics to oversee our growing biomechanics team within Performance Sciences. As the Head of Biomechanics, you will lead and coordinate the collection and analysis of motion capture data (including marker based, markerless, and wearable IMU datasets). This role will work closely with Player Development, Sports Medicine and Performance, R&D, and Scouting to deliver actionable insight into player evaluation and development. This role will be located in Houston, TX.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

- Work with Director of Performance Sciences to budget, estimate, and prioritize high level project details and timelines
- Assess reliability and validity of biomechanical data sources
- Research, develop, and test methods and models based on kinetic and kinematic data for the purposes of player development, evaluation, and injury mitigation
- Work with the R&D department to prioritize ingestion, and automation of biomechnical reports to dissiminate across player development and scouting
- Work with Sports Science to develop educational content for all staff on basic physics and biomechanical principles
- Stay up to date on current research methods in the biomechanics field
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education and/or Experience & Skills:
Required
- Proficient knowledge in kinesiology / exercises science / strength and conditioning performance principles
- Proficient knowledge in statistical programming language (R, Python)
- Working knowledge of SQL
- Experience in collecting, analyzing, and visualizing 3D motion capture data
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Track record of visualizing kinetic and kinematic data in novel and intuitive ways
- Ability to manage project timelines and deliverables
Preferred
- Experience with Bayesian Statistics
- Working knowledge of baseball specific demands
- Previous experience working in sports
