Purpose of Position

The Department of Molecular Biology and Chemistry at Christopher Newport University invites applications for one or more tenure-track, Assistant Professor positions in Biology (Kinesiology), effective August 2024. Applicants must be committed to undergraduate education and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and research with undergraduates. The University seeks a teacher-scholar committed to undergraduate education who will engage a diverse group of students in creative intellectual challenges and pursue a robust research program in their field. The successful applicant must be able to support the growth and development of a new major in Kinesiology and teach courses such as Introduction to Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Anatomy & Physiology, Biostatistics, or Biomechanics and contribute to the Cellular, Molecular, and Physiological Biology major. The applicant may have the opportunity to develop courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, teach lower division courses in our Liberal Learning Core, and support the M.S. in Environmental Science. The nominal teaching load for tenure track appointments is 3-3.

A Doctoral degree in Kinesiology, Biology, or a closely related field is required for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Post-Doc experience is preferred. In some cases, exceptionally well-qualified candidates may be considered for appointment at a higher rank and ABD candidates who will not hold the doctorate by the time of appointment may be considered for appointment at the rank of Instructor. Phi Beta Kappa membership is highly desirable.
