Dr Suzi Wolfram is currently inviting applications for a fully-funded PhD position at Northumbria University, starting autumn 2026. The project aims to investigate the role of pectoralis minor tightness in rotator cuff-related shoulder pain and how this differs between women and men. Using advanced biomechanical assessment techniques, the project will:

Ø Develop novel ultrasound imaging approaches to quantify structural and mechanical properties of the pectoralis minor muscle

Ø Establish whether differences exist in pectoralis minor properties between women and men, both in healthy individuals and those with rotator cuff-related shoulder pain

Ø Examine how pectoralis minor properties are related to shoulder/scapular mechanics and activation of shoulder muscles in individuals with and without rotator cuff-related shoulder pain.
